The Intelligent Airport, developed by Transtech, presents a highly innovative approach to Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A-SMGCS).

The Intelligent Airport gives tower controllers, airline ramp managers and airport operators the tools they need to fully monitor and control surface movement areas.

This integrated system provides superior aircraft surveillance, control, guidance and routing capabilities as well as a full suite of planning, optimization and management tools. Intelligent Airport technologies overcome the blind spots, multi-path and radar inaccuracies inherent in traditional ground surveillance systems, enabling better coverage of critical areas and "hot spots."

The Intelligent Airport is based on an open architecture and database structure that easily interfaces with existing airport systems, and supports solution configurations to match any airfield topology.

The system's modular design allows airport to focus on key problems first and extend the system as required.

CAMS - The Mini Intelligent Airport
Transtech's Critical Area Management System (CAMS) is a mini Intelligent Airport, providing a point-solution at critical intersections and " hot spots" in the airport. The CAMS is typically implemented when full airfield coverage is not required. It is ideal for airports in which a comprehensive A-SMGCS investment cannot be justified. The CAMS can also serve as a complementary enhancement to existing surveillance systems.

Millimeter Wave Sensor (MWS)
The MWS is a mini-radar system operating in the millimeter wave range. The sensor detects all types of ground targets (i.e., aircraft and vehicles) in the covered sector. A cluster of synchronized MWS sensors form a distributed radar system.

Optical Identification Sensor (OIS)
The Optical Identification Sensors (OIS) enables positive aircraft identification. The OIS is a non-cooperative sensor that identifies an aircraft by "reading" its registration number (tail number). The system compares this number with the airport database (AFTN/ADMS) and generates the aircraft I.D. The OIS is designed to work under all weather conditions, day or night.

Realistic Display System
The Intelligent Airport workstation provides air traffic controllers and other airport personnel with a clear and accurate real-time picture of the area under surveillance. The workstation presents both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) graphical displays. 3D technology lets users view segments of the airfield through a virtual camera.

Guidance
Visual aids are one of the best means to direct and alert pilots as they maneuver their aircraft along the airfield's taxiway.. The Intelligent Airport controls taxiway center lights, stop bars, signs, runway guard lights and other ground lights. The system offers manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic modes of operation.
